Not that long ago, laptops were strictly luxury items. Actually, if you go back just a little further than that, so were computers in general! Only the lucky few could afford a home computer; they generally went to affluence families and business people who really needed them. But nowadays, it’s possible to buy a cheap refurbished laptop for as little or less than a desktop computer. All or a sudden, there seems no reason why you wouldn’t buy a laptop!
But how reliable is a cheap refurbished laptop? Actually, depending on the quality of the original hardware and of the work that was put into it, it can be almost as reliable as a new laptop. The only difference is that you probably can’t send it back to the manufacturer if something goes wrong - but hopefully, you have a good relationship with a knowledgeable technician, and that’s really just as good. Getting a laptop may well be within your reach - in fact, it probably is.
Why would you buy a cheap refurbished laptop instead of a desktop computer at an equivalent price? One reason is the convenience. Especially for students or professionals - or anyone who uses the computer a lot - laptops are far more convenient, because you can take them with you. Even within your home, you can change locations for a change of scene. Also, in terms of home decor (especially if you have limited space) laptops are a godsend - no more bulky machines with tangles of wire!
